Fill your Bucket
Over the past week I finished decorating my desk to help with my classroom management. It’s called Fill your Bucket which are based off a few of the following books:
On the front of my desk I placed buckets where I will be putting stickers of each students face and name on the front so they know which bucket is theirs. During the day they will have the opportunity to fill their bucket by doing the things on the side of my desk like:
sharing
safe hands
safe feet
cleaning up
working
using an inside voice
listening
having a 5 star sit
lining up appropriately
We are able to take the PECs off the side of the desk and show the students why they earned a pom pom to put in their bucket. This way they will make a connection of cause and effect. If they do something good they can earn a pom pom which then will allow them to buy an item from our store market at the end of the week.
I have seen this done before in other classrooms and decided to add visuals for my students so they could work on their language skills too. The books above are a few ideas of read aloud’s you can use with students to teach them how to fill theirs and others buckets by showing kindness.
Obviously our bucket fillers are a tad more obvious and for each student to focus on themselves for the most part because they are still young and learning how to even be in school. If you search “fill your bucket” in Pinterest though you can find a bajillion ideas of grade level appropriate ways to take this lesson and apply it to your grade level.
I hope this gave you an idea of how to implement or use the “fill your bucket” method in your classroom.
Happy Teaching :)
