BOOM Cards
Happy Monday Everyone!
I have found such an amazing tool for my young students that I had to share with you all. They are BOOM Cards. If you teach K-6 you can use these for so many things and make them as simple or difficult as possible. They are basically google slides that will track my students data for me!
Here is an example of one my amazing aid Salina made for our classroom during reading time:
I decided to create books with our boom cards to use as a class because my students all need visuals for everything, yes everything! The best part is after we are done reading the book and learning about the color yellow, we can embed comprehension questions like these:
I read the picture aloud and we had less visuals to see if they are able to comprehend what we are asking of them. These have been a huge game change for my students and me. I needed a tool to check for my students understanding but had no clue where to start. I used a boom card similar to these and realized what I needed to do was make our own. For the most part, in my class my students are working on foundational skills like colors, letters, numbers, and colors so this was amazing to use for distance learning.
Now I’m sure you are asking, what does this cost me? I know that is literally always my first one and the good news is it’s only $30 a year! Which was very doable and realistic for me to literally be able to make my own curriculum and supplementary resources to help my students learn.
Like I said earlier, the other part about it is that it tracks everything for me. Of course for distance learning you need to be cautious that there are siblings and adults at home that may be helping your students answer cards but if you do it during a zoom call you can use that card to help collect data on if your student has reached a goal you have set for them.
I am still learning about them but these have been a game change for my K-2 Special Education classroom. It’s also very similar to Teachers Pay Teachers where you can buy pre made cards so you don’t have to buy an account or even make your own. It’s all your personal preference but this is a tool I love and wanted to share with all of you.
Happy Teaching!
