Teacher Data Calendar

In the beginning of quarantine I had all of these ideas of habits I wanted to create but I would get ready for bed and realize I forgot half of the things I wanted to do. That’s why I decided that I needed to start doing some data collection for myself to see how well I was meeting my goals.

For the whole month of April I had my top 4 goals:

Drink 2 liters of water

Do at least 10 minutes of yoga

Communicate on my Instagram for 20 minutes

Post 5 times a week

As you can see two of the goals were for my own health and two were for my blog. A few months ago I created a year long list of goals I want to build into my rituals but I had no idea how well I was actually reaching these goals. So I decided to use something tangible I could see every day and track. Just like I do for my students, but I used it on myself.

I found these cute and FREE calendars (shoutout to Sarah from Beautifully Tarnished) for the year that allowed me to write on them. I have them hung up in my workspace and take it down every morning to use as a check off guide. If I check everything off, I then circle the number for that day. (If your wondering what cf is, I also track what workouts I’ve done and it sands for cross fit).

At the end of the month I count up how many circles I have and divide that my total number of days. This gives me how often I am meeting my goals. So below you can see that for April I met my goals, 60% of the time. woohoo! My ultimate goal I think is to meet them 80% of the time because it is super nice to have a lazy day here and there to relax from the madness.

I hope this gives you an idea of how we can use data on ourselves. You could easily use this to see how often you are finishing groups in your class or to talk to parents. Here are my top things I will be using this in the classroom for once we are back in full swing:

Communicating with parents

Sending positive notes home for students

Reminding myself to collect data, I will forget and always have to catch up at the end of the week!

Check in with staff

The list goes on and on but as you can see I will be using these in my classroom to make sure each week I get to these things for example it would look something like this:

Monday- Collect daily data, collect weekly data for students who were absent Friday

Tuesday- Collect daily data and check in with staff

Wednesday- Collect daily data and communicate with all parents by phone or in person

Thursday- Collect daily data and send positive note home to 3 students

Friday-Collect daily data, collect weekly data

As you can see each day can look different but it will ensure that for that week I get my top things done in my class that I need to. You could break it down more and write talk to these parents on Monday’s and these on Wednesday. This will help you create a weekly or biweekly check In with yourself to make sure you are communicating with everyone. It can get super stressful but I am so excited to implement this for myself next year to stay on top of my communication and data collection. The possibilities are endless of what I can use this for in the classroom!

Happy Teaching :)
